The Importance of Being a Lifelong Learner
Thinking that you already know everything there is to know about business, or any subject for that matter, would be like a first grader thinking he knows everything about math because he finally mastered addition and subtraction. Sure, we’re proud of the little guy, but let’s be honest, there’s a whole world of arithmetic just waiting to blow his mind and increase his understanding of the way the world works. That’s probably the biggest reason that I love being a member of GKIC. Every time I think I know business and marketing inside and out, they blow my mind with some “advanced arithmetic” that I had never considered. Many a wise man has lauded the importance of being a lifelong learner.
Einstein himself said, “Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death.” Maybe you do have the business thing down; try focusing on becoming a better manager. Are you the best friend that ever lived? Try learning more about how to be a better spouse and parent. No matter how successful you get in any aspect of your life, there’s always more to learn. Henry Ford said, “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty.” Nobody wants to be “old,” so let’s forget complacency and keep our minds fresh. Take a class, sign up for a workshop, attend a conference, or read a book for crying out loud! Just never stop trying to be a better version of you.
